Many construction projects may require the use of various types of heavy-duty materials and unloading these objects off a truck can be somewhat hazardous at times. Should a heavy load become unstable, any items that fall off the truck could pose a significant threat to construction workers in North Carolina. A recent construction accident in which a steel pipe fell off a truck and hit two construction workers has left one person with serious injuries and claimed the life of another.

Falling objects

Reports indicate that the incident took place on a recent Saturday as workers were installing gas lines on a roadside project. Authorities say that they were unloading heavy steel pipes that were sitting on the back of a nearby tractor-trailer when the load suddenly became unsteady. One of these pipes proceeded to fall off the trailer and hit two of the workers.

Authorities say the pipe hit one of the workers in the head and they advised that he was pronounced dead at the scene. The other worker was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries. While reports indicate that an investigation into the incident is underway, it remains unclear as to what might have caused the steel pipe to come loose and fall off the truck.

Construction accidents

Construction accidents involving falling objects continue to be a prevalent concern in this industry. The outcome of such an incident could leave a worker with severe or life-changing injuries or leave loved ones mourning over the untimely passing of a family member. Individuals in North Carolina who face such hardships in life could consider retaining the services of an attorney for advice on their available options for compensation and guidance in preparing to navigate the subsequent process.
